Quien es Doma Tonados?
DOMA TORNADOS es uno de los tantos proyectos del musico y productor argentino radicado en Barcelona, Guillermo Piacenza.
Guillermo es tambien conocido por su alter ego TANOX, por dirigir la compilaciones SOUNDAMERICA y llevar adelante el label HIPI DUKI MUZIK; por otra parte cuenta en su historial su participación durante años como bajista/guitarrista/letrista y diseñador en la banda ALTOCAMET y haber sido el 50% del duo de productores dubtechno RUN RUN.
La musica de DOMA TORNADOS es la confluencia de ritmos (afro)sudamericanos, lineas de bajos de influencia jamaiquina, percusion incendiaria y artilleria digital proveniente de la musica electronica bailable mas experimental.
porque Doma Tornados?
en los dias en los que le estaba dando forma al proyecto, todo el tiempo me rondaba en la cabeza ideas de cosas imposibles y desafiantes, antagonicasy contradictorias, como domar un tornado, frenar la lluvia o beberse el mar…no se, flashes de imagenes de ese tipo en donde por un lado habia algo relacionado con la naturaleza y por otro algo con una actividad humana y no podia dejar de relacionar eso con que me parecia que mi ADN musical y las herramientas con las que desarrollo mi musica estaban en una situacion de contradiccion y antagonismo, y ese punto de tension me parecia excitante.Hoy ya no solo no me parece contradictorio, sino que tambien me parecen complementarios: todo es posible.
Cuenta nos un poco de los projectos en que estas envolucrado por el momento.
Estoy terminando un ep y un album que saldran en los proximos meses, y en este ultimo tiempo he estado desarrollando una serie de remixes bien diversos: Daniel Jeffs, Pernett, Lido Pimienta, Schlachtofbronx y Gaudi y la verdad me ha venido bien para salir de la rutina de la produccion propia y tener diferentes acercamientos a otras musicas y sonidos, que por supuesto aparte de haberme divertido me han nutrido considerablemente.
Que tal el movimiento de la Cumbia ahora en Barcelona?
Pues hay un embrion de “movimiento”.Hay mucha gente interesada; unas honestamente otras simplemente porque “se dice” que esta de moda; lo cierto es que la presencia latinoamericana en Barcelona es muy grande y es inevitable que de un momento a otro sea un ritmo que invada la ciudad.Mientras tanto el embrion deambula de casa en casa y de bar en bar ganando adeptos.
Has estado pinchando en otros partes de España tambien, y que tal va tú set? Y que tal el resto de Europa?
Muy bien! poniendose mas y mas musculoso y afilado.
El set de Doma Tornados es a base de tracks, secuencias, percusion en vivo y muuuchos efectos de estudio trasladados a la pista de baile.Trabajo muy a la manera de los productores de dub: comienza un beat, luego un track, agrego elementos, luego efectos, lo deconstruyo, lo mezclo con otro track, lo deconstruyo , lo vuelvo a construir, incluyo una parte de un track ajeno, paso a otra cosa y asi.Es muy dinamico y no lineal.
Aqui en España comienzo en unos dias una residencia mensual en Barcelona en el Rouge, y en el resto de Europa la cosa va creciendo de manera sostenida.Hace unos meses anduve tocando por Copenhague, Tilburg y Amsterdam y el feedback fue excelente, quede muy sorprendido.Este año se sumaran nuevos destinos seguramente, el verano se perfila intenso.
Que temas te funciona mejor ahora en la pista?
Mmm… Cumbia Arenosa, Unilovers, Maxima Caipirinha y Future Cumbia ponen todo patas para arriba! Las ultimas incorporaciones fueron El Baile de la Serpiente y Rede y funcionan muy bien tambien.

Who is Tonados Doma?
TORNADOES DOMA is one of many projects of the Barcelona based Argentinean musician and producer, Guillermo Piacenza. Guillermo is also known as his alter ego TANOX, for directing the SOUNDAMERICA compilations and pushing forward the label Hipi Duki MUZIK; Other than that what counts in his history is his participation as a bassist / guitarist / songwriter and designer in the band Altocamet for years, and beeing 50% of the producer duo dubtechno RUN RUN.
The music of DOMA TORNADOES is the confluence of rhythms (Afro) South American, basslines with Jamaican influence, incendiary percussion and digital artillery from more experimental dance electronica.
Why Doma Tornados?
Back when this project was taking form, ideas was flying around in the head all the time, ideas of impossible, challenging, antagonistic and contradicting things, it was like to tame (Domar) a tornado, stopp the rain or drink the sea…or something, i don’t know. Flashes of pictures of the kind where one side had something to do with nature and the other with a human activity, and I could not help to relate this to that it seemed that my musical DNA and the tools wich I development my music with was in a state of contradiction and antagonism, and that point of tension was exiting for me. Today this doesn’t seem just contradictory, but I also that the two sides complement each other: anything is possible.
Tell us something about the projects that you’re involved with at the moment.
I’m finishing an EP and an album due to be out in the coming months, and in recent time I’ve been developing a series of quite different remixes: Daniel Jeffs, Pernett, Lido Pimienta, Schlachtofbronx and Gaudi, to tell you the truth it has been good for me to leave my own production and have new and different approaches to other types of music and sounds, which of course apart from having fun has nurtured me considerably.
How about the Cumbia movement now in Barcelona?
Well there is an embryo of a “movement”. There are many people interested, honestly some simply because “it’s said” to be hot, it is certain that the Latin American presence in Barcelona is very large and it is inevitable that at any moment it’s a rythm that will invade this city. In the mean time the embryo wanders from house to house and from one bar to to another gaining followers.
Have you been playing other parts of Spain too, and how’s your set recieved? And what about the rest of Europe?
Very good! it’s getting more and more muscular and sharp.
Doma Tornado’s set is based on tracks, loops, live percussion and a lots and lots of studio effects transformed to fit the dancefloor. I work alot like the dub producers: it starts with a beat, then a track, I add elements, then effects, I deconstruct it, mix it with another track, deconstruct it and have it re-built, including a portion of yet another track, step into something else and that’s the way it goes. It’s very dynamic and nonlinear.
Here in Spain in a few days I begin on a monthly residency in Barcelona at the Rouge, and in the rest of Europe the thing is getting bigger and bigger in a steady pace. A few months ago I played Copenhagen, Tilburg and Amsterdam and the feedback was excellent, I was very surprised. This year, new destinations will come for shure, and the summer is shaping up to be intense.
What tunes works best on the dancefloor right now?
mmm … Cumbia Arenosa, Unilovers, Maxima Caipirinha and Future Cumbia is making a mess out there! The latest additions were El Baile de la Serpiente and Rede and they work very well too.
